The Idea Contest
from the idea to the plan
Our idea contest rewards the best projects with funding in the amount of 20,000 euros.
What it's about
- With the idea contest organised by the Civic Innovation Platform, we are promoting artificial intelligence and networking project partners for the benefit of the common good.
- Twice anually, up to 15 project ideas are awarded prize money of 20,000 euros each. The funds are split into three instalments, payment of which is tied to certain conditions being met, such as participation in workshops or a presentation on the progress made thus far. The project ideas must be clearly related to the Ministry’s activities, e.g. the future of work, occupational safety and quality of work, vocational training and further education, and reintegration in the labour market as well as integration, inclusion, diversity and equal access.
- A wide range of different actors are invited to participate in the idea contest. This includes the developer side (developers, start-ups), the user side (municipal authorities, SMEs, administrative bodies) as well as parties who are directly or indirectly affected (trade unions, socio-political organisations/associations, private individuals). Cross-sector project partnerships are a prerequisite for participation.
Idea Contest ‘AI is what we make it!’
Ideas can have different impetuses, such as the question as to how AI-based solutions can help to solve existing challenges in society. However, the opposite perspective can also generate exciting ideas: for what social questions can existing solutions be put to the most effective use? Or how can existing data pools help to completely reorganise things? Accordingly, project ideas can be highly diverse. Regardless of the angle from which an idea is developed, it is always worthwhile to illuminate it from other perspectives as well. The Civic Innovation Platform aims to contribute to enabling individual actors from a wide range of different fields to forge viable networks with one another and thus to work together.
Idea-matching step by step
Outline your idea
Once you have registered, you can outline your idea in the form of an abstract and start searching for partners. You can explain your idea in greater detail in the members-only part of the community, where only registered users can contact you. A brief description of the project idea (max. 280 characters) can be placed on the “Ideas Market” in the public part of the platform. This additionally encourages non-registered visitors to the website to participate.
Working together to take new or existing ideas forward
If you have found an intriguing idea on the CIP ideas market that appeals to you, simply register and contact the originator of the idea. Who knows? Perhaps this could be the beginning of a joint project! As soon as you have assembled a team, you can get down to work together on developing your idea and preparing the proposal for the idea contest.
Submit the draft
You can submit your outline for the contest by email. To take part in the idea contest, we need a legally binding declaration as well as a partnership agreement that sets out the members of your team and specifies the contact person, among other things. All the other details you need to take into account when you submit your proposal can be found in the community area after you log in.
Winning an award
If your proposal impresses our jury, we will reward it with prize money of 20,000 euros. This award provides financial support for the further development of the idea to turn it into a viable plan. The funding is paid out in three instalments, tied to various conditions being met, such as participation in networking and advisory workshops.
