Kaleidofon ‒ an interface for inclusive artistic work

With its 'Kaleidofon' AI application, the company Birds on Mars GmbH and the non-profit education institution barner 16/alsterarbeit gGmbH wish to make it possible for people with a disability to discover their own artistic potential and to create art and music using speech and communication sounds. Kaleidofon will make an important contribution to social inclusion and participation in the primary labour market on the basis of its easy accessibility and customised operation options.

Why are you a strong team?

Our team consists of two groups with different fields of expertise, working professionally and complementing each other in the project perfectly:

  1.  barner16/alsterarbeit gGmbH: long-standing, active group in fields such as music, for people with and without disabilities.
  2. Birds on Mars GmbH: a next-generation consulting firm and AI agency specialising in data and artificial intelligence.

The artistic, creative work we do with people is our shared strength.

Explain your idea in three sentences.

We develop an AI product that users of varying degrees of skill can use to express themselves creatively based on their voice and sounds. This AI is intended to adapt to the individual possibilities, abilities and preferences of its users while simultaneously enabling collective inclusion and ‘jamming’. It would be desirable to have a product that can be used by any person to the same extent, even if heavily disabled.

What makes your idea special?

What is special about our idea is that it is an interplay of shared artistic work with people and an innovative development of an AI application. We have a focus on enabling disabled people to find their own, individual artistic expression. Another special aspect is the easy accessibility of the application, where the AI adjusts to a highly varied user base.

What are the next steps?

As part of our conceptual work, we are starting on the initial practical prototyping in order to quickly sound out the initial limits and possibilities of the technical development and understand user needs better. Users are planned to come into contact with a future AI as soon as possible. Additional considerations about interface design are being fleshed out. The concept will be defined at regular virtual meetings and meetings together on site.
