AI-based assistance for a more active and independent life with diabetes

The idea of the project partners led by tech start-up GLAICE and the Department of Exercise Physiology and Metabolism at the University of Bayreuth is to actively help people with diabetes to maintain a healthy lifestyle. By combining medical guidelines and health sensors, tips and recommendations are generated that can be delivered in a personalised way using AI-based data analysis.

What makes you a strong team?

As a team, we share a passion for developing healthcare solutions that enable people to live better lives. In order to realise our vision, the entire team gained 1 1/2 years of user-centred design experience in various projects at UnternehmerTUM and many years of experience in research, medical technology, marketing and software development, enabling us to identify needs, build products and market them.

Explain your idea in three sentences.

We enable safe and easy exercise with diabetes. Our algorithm analyses users’ health data to identify patterns and show how lifestyle affects blood sugar. Based on this data and the latest medical guidelines, we offer real-time support and bespoke lifestyle insights to help everyone make informed decisions and avoid dangerous blood sugar levels.

What makes your idea special?

It is a medical co-pilot that helps people with diabetes understand and actively control their blood sugar levels. Unlike other solutions, it is not a constant disease reminder, but an assistant that analyses data to make it easier to deal with diabetes. By linking the latest research and technology, we adapt to the users so that they can live an active life while we provide security and flexibility.

What’s next?

We are currently in our clinical trial to prove the efficacy of GLAICE. Our next step is to work with new and existing partners to ensure that GLAICE is accessible to everyone who needs help. At the same time, we are working closely with our medical partners to further develop the solution and create a system that enables long-term health for people with diabetes.
