What makes you a strong team?
The team behind the ‘KIMUP’ project idea is so strong precisely because it spans such a broad range: we combine expertise from the fields of research, corporate networks, sales and application-oriented practice. Project development can therefore be carried out with the support of local companies, ranging from prototypical implementation and testing by users with expert support through to market maturity and sales.
Explain your idea in three sentences.
We want to enable older people and people in need of care to live as long and self-determined a life as possible in their home environment. We combine simple and cost-effective smart home sensors with an AI for anomaly detection to support friends, relatives and specialist carers. The aim is to create an app that notifies the desired group of people in the event of ‘unusual’ behaviour and thus requests assistance in good time.
What makes your idea special?
We respect the privacy of those affected, because instead of monitoring (i.e. recording individual activities), only the presence (or absence) of an anomaly is communicated to the outside world. The prototype of the application is being tested in our geriatric living laboratory and thus under professional supervision, with interference with the home environment kept to a minimum. Development takes place in an agile process involving specialist carers, those affected and friends/relatives.
What’s next?
Together with the specialist carers, we are devising a sensible and practical selection of smart home sensors: our basic sensor kit. Along with the development of the app, we are entering the testing phase in the living laboratory in order to involve those affected in the development process as early as possible. This also allows us to adapt the kit to individual needs.
