Mobilising hidden reserves for childcare - Civic Innovation Platform

Mobilising hidden reserves for childcare

Nurseries require support at short notice if, for example, employees are absent due to illness. At the same time, many people are looking for flexible, part-time work opportunities. A platform that brings the two groups together and ‘matches’ them using AI is intended to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the field of childcare. The team behind the project idea consists of the software company MACH AG and the Institute for Multimedia and Interactive Systems at the University of Lübeck.

What makes you a strong team?

Our team combines many years of experience in software development for public administration with knowledge of the latest research results in the field of e-government and applications of artificial intelligence in the context of public administration. In our projects, we work closely with the target groups and benefit from the different perspectives created by interdisciplinary collaboration.

Explain your idea in three sentences.

For health reasons or due to personal obligations such as caring for relatives, many people are only able to work to a very limited extent and are therefore not available to the regular labour market. In the area of childcare, a platform can place these people as temporary workers flexibly and at short notice. An AI algorithm supports a quick comparison of searches for/offers of temporary assistance.

What makes your idea special?

Our idea offers a modern approach to flexible and marginal employment opportunities and thus enables people to (re-)enter employment. At the same time, the shortage of childcare staff can be alleviated in the short term. In addition, the platform aims to implement an accompanying course model with socio-pedagogical topics in order to ensure the pedagogical quality of the temporary staff and enable part-time qualifications.

What’s next?

We would like to join forces with other partners for this project, particularly in the field of childcare and social pedagogical training. Together, we will then develop the project idea into a concept eligible for funding and submit it to appropriate programmes.
