AI-supported sense-making as a means of depolarising society

Bringing our society closer together and counteracting polarisation are the aims of the idea developed by the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Business Development at the University of Lübeck and the Digital Economy Schleswig-Holstein (DiWiSH). AI-supported sense-making is intended to strengthen people’s ability to understand the perspectives of others.

What makes you a strong team?

The collaboration between the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Business Development at the University of Lübeckand the Digital Economy Schleswig-Holstein (DiWiSH) combines complementary competencies from research and practice to realise the idea of AI-supported sense-making as a means of depolarising society and make it available to the general public.

Explain your idea in three sentences.

Our democracy is based on the appreciation of pluralism with its delicate decision-making process in which diverse and divergent interests compete respectfully for the best outcome. In recent decades, however, there has been an increasing polarisation of our society, with pluralism becoming less important.

Our idea is to contribute to the depolarisation of society by supporting mutual understanding through sense-making.

What makes your idea special?

An important aspect of innovation is the transfer of existing sense-making methods and tools to practical applications using AI technologies. Furthermore, using an AI-supported instrument can address a range of content that would otherwise be impossible to cover.

What’s next?

In order to transform the idea into a workable solution, it is first necessary to initiate a customer-centric development process in which the existing technological possibilities are examined more closely at the same time. To this end, we use existing design thinking tools from the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Business Development.
